Keyano College offers a wide selection of driver Training programs that are developed to educate and provide employees using current and approved knowledge. The Driver Education program is available in a classroom, online as well as behind the wheel. We provide instruction for novice advanced, experienced, and older driver students in order to ensure that they possess the necessary skills to achieve success.

Keyano College offers both individual Driver Training in groups and individual.

12-hours, $295 plus GST

This is a course for learners who want to earn an Alberta "Q" Air Brake Certification that is required for all professional drivers operating air brake automobiles. In order to pass the program, students need to be enrolled in the class for theory classes as well as pass both practical and written tests.

PREREQUISITES: Valid Class 5 Canadian Driver's License

Note: Alberta Registry will only respect"Q" endorsements on Alberta Registered licenses "Q" endorsement on Alberta Registered licences.

Maintenance status The successful completion of the course only once.

Students are required to: * Have the valid Class 5 Alberta non-probationary driver's licence
* For those for who English is an additional language, you should possess:

  • CLB with the minimum of a core size of 6
  • TOEFL: IBT with at least a score of 59.
  • IELTS that has an optimum score of 6.5 and no lower score than 5.5
  • CAEL having at least a score of 50
  • Duolingo Minimum score is 85
  • PTE(academic) Minimum score of 36

Note Q endorsement can only be able to be used on a current Alberta Driver's license.

30 hours plus road test, $3,199 + GST

This class is intended for learners seeking to earn the Alberta class 3 driver's licence. In this class, learners are taught safe driving techniques including pre-trip inspections, back strategies, and enhance their abilities through classroom reviews and teaching activities, as well as observation and practice. If they pass the course, participants can participate in a road examination through Alberta Registry. Students must buy their Driver's Exam permit from Alberta Registry. Keyano will schedule exam time together with Alberta Registry as part of this program.

Note: Keyano's Class 3 cars are fitted with both automatic and manual transmissions.

MAINTAINING STATUS: Class 3 maintaining status requirements per Alberta Registry

It is mandatory to wear and bring Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for example:

  • Possess the valid Class 5 Alberta Non-Probationary Driver's License (No restriction on GDL)
  • You must have an active Air Brake "Q" Endorsement prior to the course's start
  • Successfully passed the Class 3 Skills Test at Alberta Registry
  • Send a copy of their driver's abstract from the last two-year period

If you are someone to who English is an alternative language, you should possess:

  • CLB with at least 6 cores
  • TOEFL: IBT with an iBT score minimum of 59
  • IELTS requiring an iELTS score of 6.5 and no lower score than 5.5
  • CAEL having at least a score of 50
  • Duolingo Minimum score is 85
  • PTE(academic) Minimum score of 36

Note The endorsement Q can only be able to be used on a legitimate Alberta Driver's license.

The course is designed for those seeking to get the Alberta Driver's Class 1 licence and is required for professional drivers who want to obtain their Class 1 license on or after March 19th 2019. The successful completion of this class is required prior to submitting for a road examination by the Alberta Registry.

It includes both practical and classroom components. The course are taught through three different learning settings, including classes, in-yard, and in-cab instruction. It is essential to have positive attitude towards driving will be demonstrated throughout the program. Students learn the safest driving techniques, as well as job tasks and the theory behind driving, in addition to having an opportunity to work on their driving abilities one-on-one with the instructor. After completing the program successfully students are eligible to take the Class 1 road test through Alberta Registry.

MAINTAINING STATUS: Class 1 maintaining status requirements per Alberta Registry.

It is important to note that in-cab learning is one-on-one training with a trainer and may be scheduled in 3 hour blocks each the day (per Government of Alberta requirements). The blocks are planned in conjunction via Keyano to coincide with teacher and student availability.

Students are required to:
* Have the valid Class 5 Alberta Non-probationary Driver's License (no GDL limitation)
* Ensure you have an active Air Brake "Q" Endorsement prior to the course's start
• Provide a copy their driver's abstract in the two-year period
* If you are someone to whom English is a second one, you have to:

  • CLB with at least 6 cores
  • TOEFL: IBT with an iBT score minimum of 59
  • IELTS that has an aforementioned minimal score of 6.5 and no lower score than 5.5
  • CAEL that has at least a score of 50
  • Duolingo Minimum score is 85
  • PTE(academic) (academic) – Minimum score of 36
  • The Class 1 vehicles are fitted by manual transmissions.
  • It is strongly suggested for participants to undergo a positive medical exam with a doctor before participating in MELT. MELT program.

Wear and carry Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for example:

Students must complete the entire training program and take a written test within nine months from the their date of enrollment. If they fail to complete the course in the nine months that follow must go through weeks 1 and 2.

Note Important: Week three (in-cab training) is scheduled to be available to students in three-hour blocks, to be able to fit into individual schedules. This allows our field employees working shifts to finish their training and still earn some income. The students are allowed to drive for 3 hours driving per day.

The total cost of the program includes GST of $9,630.

Operator Training

We have training courses that will help those who want to be haul truck drivers, as well as Heavy Equipment Operators.

Haul Truck Operator

The four-week Haul Truck Operator course provides participants with the necessary knowledge required to safely operate a truck following the recommendations of manufacturers and standards of the industry.

The curriculum consists of theoretical, computer based learning and exercises. After completing the training you'll be prepared for entry-level operator jobs in the area.

Heavy Equipment Operator

We provide an eight-week Heavy Equipment Operator course is specifically designed for those who are looking to get starting positions in the operator of heavy equipment sector. The students receive the education in the basics safety and operation of heavy equipment. The student's entire computer-based education courses are combined with simulators that allow for practical use allows students to train safely in a controlled setting and get complete, constant, and factual feedback about their progress.

Furthermore to that, there will also be the opportunity to receive hands-on instruction on the equipment in the course. Participants will have the chance to develop their expertise on different pieces of equipment, including wheeled loader excavator, grader, dozer and articulating trucks.

Edmonton Air Brake Endorsement/ Q Endorsement

 

  • Air brake training is a single day of course in the classroom that comprises

The air brake training course is a complete day class that is offered three times a week. The course consists of theoretical classroom and a hands-on component. The classroom part is the theory portion students are taught about the basics of brakes, parts that make up air brakes and the safe operation of these systems. The aim of this class is to instruct students on how to evaluate and ensure the system is operating at optimal performance.

After completing the theoretical following the theory, students are given an actual training session followed by a exam. If they pass each student receives the certificate and take it to the registry office in order to pass the test. Once you have passed the written test, you'll receive an air brake certification.

Online Air Brake Refresher Program

 

The use of a car that has the air brake in Alberta must pass an written test to determine the knowledge of air brakes along with the Albertan Registry after completing the course. This program was developed to help ensure that drivers have the skills and knowledge required for safe operation of vehicles across the roads of Canada. The program is divided into 3 sections. Training in the classroom is for an average of 6.5 hours. This is and is followed by fifteen minutes of demonstration by the instructor of a pretrip check. The students will practice the pretrip inspection of air brakes 2 times. The final assessment will be in one-on-one mode with an Air Brake Practical Test Form that must be completed within 15 minutes. Learners will receive an acknowledgement to complete an Air Brake Program Completion Form.

The learner must bring the application at an Alberta Registry Agent and take the driver test (fee for the test is applicable). The test is administered electronically and available only in English. If the candidate passes the test and the Registry Agent is notified, they will add the "Q" endorsement to the driver's license of the learner.
